To request items through Interlibrary Loan, you must first create an ILLiad account. Please review the following information before proceeding.
To create an ILLiad account you need to have a Library Borrower Account. You will be asked to enter the barcode number in the Library Card Number field of the ILLiad registration form. Please see Get a Library Account (SI staff) for information about the types of borrowing privileges and to access the Borrower Registration Form. Additional information can be found on Borrowing and Access Privileges. All ILLiad account holders must use their Smithsonian email account as the email address associated with the account. The ILLiad username and password are not currently linked to your Smithsonian network account. Choose any username you like, such as your name, abbreviations, or an alphanumeric code. For the password, we recommend that you follow good security practices for creating a strong password.
